How to get started?
It can be hard to know where to start. Maybe you don’t know yet whether therapy is the right way forward for you at this time. What to expect? Sometimes a brief phone chat can help answer some initial questions that you may have and we can arrange and initial appointment.
The process begins with an initial meeting in which we can consider what you would like to get out of therapy and how we might work together.
We will explore what brings you to therapy and I will ask questions about you. You will have the opportunity to clarify any questions or concerns you may have about the process of therapy and my approach. If we both feel that therapy will be beneficial we will proceed to agree our regular meeting time and the fee.
Sessions are 50 minutes long and usually take place weekly, sometimes twice-weekly. You reserve a regular session day and time and it remains yours for as long as we work together.
Cancelled sessions must be paid for. If you can give at least 7 days notice of a planned commitment, a holiday or other break, I will aim to provide an alternative appointment time within the same week at no extra cost whenever possible.
Short-term or Open-ended therapy
Short-term work can be helpful in addressing a specific, episodic problem as the limited time frame can provide focus. It can also be a useful first step into therapy. Open ended work is wide-ranging offering the possibility of in-depth exploration.
Time-limited work has an agreed end. In open ended therapy you will likely notice a difference at some point how you were when you started and perhaps you feel ready to commence on your own. This might be the time to think about ending therapy, which usually takes place over a period of 6 weeks.
My fees per 50 minute session are between £80 and £115 depending on the time that we meet. I work from my practice in West Hampstead (NW6) and near Bond Street (W1).
From time to time a low cost time slot becomes available. If you are in need of financial support please ask me.
